About the team
At Ingrid Capacity, our data team builds and maintains an in-house optimization engine to maximize battery efficiency within the grid. We also focus on creating a data-driven culture by building data pipelines and a Business Intelligence layer to provide stakeholders with actionable insights. Our team plays a key role in driving strategic decision-making and overall company success, and we work closely together to ensure a smooth transition of ideas from concept to reality. What you’ll do
As our Senior Optimization Engineer at Ingrid Capacity, you'll lead efforts in optimizing battery storage to support the grid and transition to renewable energy. You'll be key in improving our battery optimization algorithms, ensuring they operate at peak efficiency. This role requires strong mathematical skills and a mix of optimization techniques. The impact of your work on our revenue is substantial, with an annual output that continues to grow. You'll collaborate across teams to incorporate diverse data into our models and translate insights into actions.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Own the evolution of our battery system optimization algorithms. Craft and refine them to maximize efficiency and economic performance, leveraging multi-stage optimization strategies.
- Unleash your mathematical prowess. Apply deep mathematical knowledge and cutting-edge problem formulation techniques to tackle intricate energy storage challenges using stochastic optimization, linear programming, and reinforcement learning.
- Bridge the data gap. Collaborate closely with your team to seamlessly integrate forecasts and other crucial data into our optimization models.
- Become a master translator. Break down complex models and their outcomes into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders across the organization.
- Champion innovation. Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement by actively contributing to the advancement of our data science and optimization approaches.
Who we think you are
Ideally, you have experience from the energy sector, particularly battery storage or renewable energy systems, and experience in battery optimization or hydro optimization is, of course, very meritorious. You have a track record of innovation and a problem solving mindset, in complex, data-driven projects.
Here's what will set you up for success:
- Experienced Optimizer: You have proven experience as an optimization engineer or data scientist, with a strong foundation in optimization algorithms and/or machine learning.
- Math Mastermind: Deep understanding of mathematical concepts like stochastic processes, linear programming, and scenario analysis is essential.
- Technical Expertise: You're comfortable applying various optimization methods, including linear programming, non-linear strategies, and agent-based reinforcement learning. Proficiency in Python for optimization tasks is required. Experience with GAMS (or a similar language) is a bonus.
For this role, we think you have a educational background in mathematics, data science, energy systems, computer science or similar, and a PhD in any of these fields is highly meritorious. We would like to add, that if you’re a highly experienced candidate, we’re more interested in your passion, skills, and drive to make a difference.
