Optimisation Engineer
About us
Ingrid was born out of a simple belief: the energy transition must move faster and work smarter. We're pioneers at the forefront of the global energy transition — pushing boundaries, turning bold ideas into reality, and solving the problems that matter most.
The INtelligent GRID of tomorrow needs to absorb and release more power. We develop, build and operate high-performance batteries — the lungs of modern energy infrastructure — enabling a more flexible and resilient energy supply across Europe. With 500 MW already deployed across the Nordics and rapid expansion into continental Europe, we manage, optimise and trade both our own assets and those of third parties through our sophisticated tech platform, making every battery — and the entire grid — stronger.
About the team
At Ingrid, our tech team builds and maintains an in-house optimization engine to maximise battery efficiency within the grid. We also focus on creating a data-driven culture by building data pipelines and a Business Intelligence layer to provide stakeholders with actionable insights. Our team plays a key role in driving strategic decision-making and overall company success, and we work closely together to ensure a smooth transition of ideas from concept to reality. At Ingrid, we foster a collaborative and inclusive environment where everyone’s voice is valued. We believe in empowering our team members to make a real impact.
About the role
As our Optimisation Engineer at Ingrid, you'll lead efforts in optimising battery storage to support the grid and transition to renewable energy. You'll be key in improving our battery optimisation algorithms, ensuring they operate at peak efficiency. This role requires strong mathematical skills and a mix of optimisation techniques. The impact of your work on our revenue is substantial, with an annual output that continues to grow. You'll collaborate across teams to incorporate diverse data into our models and translate insights into actions.
What you'll do
Contribute to the evolution of our battery system optimisation algorithms. Craft and refine them to maximise efficiency and economic performance, leveraging multi-stage optimisation strategies.
Apply your mathematical expertise to real-world energy challenges. Apply deep mathematical knowledge and cutting-edge problem formulation techniques to tackle intricate energy storage challenges using stochastic optimisation, linear programming, and reinforcement learning.
Bridge the data gap. Collaborate closely with your team to seamlessly integrate forecasts and other crucial data into our optimisation models.
Champion innovation. Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement by actively contributing to the advancement of our data science and optimisation approaches.
Collaborate to optimise. Work closely with stakeholders to align business goals with tailored optimisation solutions.
Who we think you are
Ideally, you have experience from the energy sector, particularly battery storage or renewable energy systems, and experience in battery optimization or hydro optimisation is, of course, very meritorious. You have a track record of innovation and a problem solving mindset, in complex, data-driven projects.
Here's what will set you up for success:
Experienced Optimiser: You have proven experience in optimisation, data science, operations research, applied mathematics, or other related field, with a strong foundation in optimisation algorithms and/or machine learning.
Math Mastermind: Solid foundation in mathematical concepts essential for optimisation modeling, including linear programming and scenario analysis.
Technical Expertise: You're comfortable applying various optimisation methods, including linear programming. Proficiency in Python or another suitable programming language for optimisation tasks is required.
For this role, we think you have an educational background in mathematics, engineering physics, data science, energy systems, computer science or similar.
